Media Policy for Society for Neuroeconomics Meetings

The annual meeting of the Society for Neuroeconomics brings together top scientists, up-and-coming researchers, and students from around the world for presentations (in the forms of 30-minute talks and poster sessions) and formal and informal discussions of the latest in neuroeconomic research. Presenters come mainly from backgrounds of economics, neuroscience, and psychology, and attendees include scientists from these and other disciplines as well as professionals from various fields who are interested in current neuroeconomic research. Journalists, science writers, and editors are encouraged to attend the annual meetings; however, agreeing to the following policy is a prerequisite for media attendance.

Confidentiality and Use of Information
Scientist often present, and in fact are encouraged to present ongoing projects at the annual meeting and may describe discoveries and/or novel methods that are not yet published. Therefore, to encourage this free flow of information and ideas, and to prevent the premature release of confidential information, we require all media attendees to obtain permission in advance from the relevant scientist prior to reporting any information gleaned from the meetings, be it from formal presentations or informal discussions. Media attendees are encouraged to approach scientists during coffee breaks, poster sessions, socials, or meals for informal discussions, formal interviews, and/or permission to report any information stemming from their work. Please be sure to identify yourself as a member of the media, get the scientist's permission to speak with him/her, and distinguish whether comments and quotes will be on- or off-record. Any quotations or citations you make must have the express consent of the scientist, or the appropriate principal investigator if your source is a post-doctoral or graduate student.

Attribution
We would be grateful if any writing or reporting of information obtained directly from our annual meeting would explicitly mention the Society for Neuroeconomics.

Advance Availability of Meeting Information
Meeting programs will be available online at www.neuroeconomics.org at least one month before the meeting, and abstracts are only distributed upon check-in at the meeting.

Registration
Members of the media are required to register in advance for the meeting.  If the Society certifies them as accredited members of the mainstream media, then registration fees are waived if they wish to attend only the scientific sessions.  If members of the media wish to attend meals and socials, however, they must register at the standard price.  Please email Maggie Grantner at Maggie@neuroeconomics.org before registering to identify yourself as media and state explicitly that you agree to the media policy above.  Identification as “Media” will appear on your nametag, which you must wear at all times during all meeting functions including slide sessions, poster sessions, breaks, socials, and meals.

If you have specific questions or advance needs, please contact Maggie Grantner at maggie(at)neuroeconomics(dot)org
