Postdoctoral Researcher Position
Department of Economics, University of Zurich
Posted 01/19/12
The Department of Economics at the University of Zurich has received funding for a new project entitled “Genetic and Neural Foundations of Preferences”. The project focuses on analyzing the genetic and neural determinants of risk, time and social preferences by applying economic and neuroeconomic tools that enable us to measure structural preference parameters and the biological forces that shape them. For this project, which will be completed under the direction of Prof. Ernst Fehr, we are presently seeking applicants for the position of a Postdoctoral researcher.
Candidates should hold (or expect) a good PhD degree in a relevant discipline (e.g., Psychology, Neuroscience, Economics, or Computer Science), and an interest in experimental and behavioral economics. Both junior and senior postdoctoral researchers are invited to apply. They should have published work using human neuroscience or behavioral genetics methods (e.g., fMRI, TMS or tDCS, GWAS).
Because we have a large database of combined behavioral, genetic and neurobiological data the applicant should have experience in the handling of large databases as well as in the statistical analysis of these data using appropriate the statistical software (e.g. STATA). Candidates should also have sound programming skills (e.g. MATLAB) and experience with software for the presentation and analysis of neuroimaging experiments (e.g., SPM, Cogent, Presentation, or others).
Above all, candidates should be enthusiastic about the topics involved in the project and willing to quickly acquire advanced knowledge in those areas. We expect candidates to be able to work independently and at their own initiative.
The position is available from September 2012 onwards for an initial duration of two years and can be extended by 2-3 more years. Salary is negotiable and will depend on qualifications and experience.
The Department of Economics offers an exciting and interdisciplinary work environment and excellent research facilities, including a 3T MRI scanner and laboratories for TMS, tDCS, and behavioral experiments.
Please submit your application, including CV, copies of all relevant diplomas, a one-page statement of interest, and a recommendation letter from a referee to sally.gschwend@econ.uzh.ch, by February 26, 2012.
The University of Zurich is an equal opportunity employer, and as such welcomes appli-cations from women and minority candidates.
